19:23:28 From Charis W To Everyone: Do you have to book homestays in advance? CHERYL - In some places there is only one lodging available so you'd probably be wise to book those in advance. If there's only one or two of you, the rest of the time you'd probably be able to walk in but you might have to visit a couple of places to find a room in high season 19:49:39 From Mearl & Caroline To Everyone: Would be interested in cost of trip. As well as what a typical lodging night would be, as well as a typical meal. CHERYL: This really depends on the type of accommodation, whether you include transport or guide. Our two Turkey adventures were $2400 each for 2 weeks each, essentailly everything included except airfare. If you're just buying lodging, you might pay from 30 euros to 100 euros including dinner and breakfast. 19:51:04 From iona To Everyone: Did your guide join you on the hikes as well, to share his knowledge about what you were seeing on your hike? CHERYL: Yes, if they weren't with us the whole time we wouldn't have gained the benefit from having a guide: explaining the history hidden along the path, taking us to the most interesting places we might not otherwise know about, introducing us to the culture, helping with the language 19:52:53 From Mearl & Caroline To Everyone: What was it like traveling during covid? CHERYL: We cancelled this trip twice, for spring 2020 and spring 2021, because covid levels were high as well as travel restrictions. We watched closely and this time Turkey's covid levels were low and all their restrictions were lifted so we decided to go. We carried extra self tests, wore masks in crowded places, and had to get an antigen test before flying home, but otherwise there was little evidence of covid or covid-precautions anywhere we went. 19:54:57 From Mearl & Caroline To Everyone: Meant to ask cost of lodging… and cost of a typical meal? CHERYL: See above for cost of typical lodging. A meal might cost the equivalent of 5 to 30 dollars in Turkish lira (the lira is worth very little right now) 19:55:57 From iona To Everyone: will the recording of this excellent presentation be made available for re-viewing later? 20:01:46 From Nancy Temkin (she/her) To Everyone: The presentation is being recorded and will be made available. We'll send a link to everyone with a ticket. 20:02:21 From iona To Everyone: cool, thanks! 19:57:45 From Kalman Brauner To Everyone: What does "wild camping" mean? 20:04:35 From Nancy Temkin (she/her) To Everyone: Wild camping is backpacking and stopping where you want--no services. 19:58:25 From rob To Everyone: How did you select the various sections? CHERYL: I read everything I could about the trails and archaelogical sections and then went back and forth with the outfitter who added the lodging, transport and any other logistics considerations and made their own suggestions, until we reached agreement within our time and budget constraints. 20:16:26 From Kalman Brauner To Everyone: What were the water temps in "the Med"? CHERYL: In the 60s unless we were in the shallows in which case it was a bit warmer. 20:16:45 From Ronda To Everyone: The agenda looks amazing. Looking back, is there anything you would change i.e., itinerary, timing, etc.? CHERYL: Our 2015 trip included a lot more walking through villages and rural life and we did more longer walking days; but didn't have the fun stops at our guide's 'friends' places for food and some of the special less known historical sites that were included in 2022. Would love to have both! But maybe would take more time than we have. Each guided trip reflects the knowledge and preferences of the guide (and this year's guide was WAY better!) 20:31:05 From nate To Everyone: Thank you so much for a wonderful presentation. The history and scenery is amazing. (I only just joined the Mountaineers, and this is my first event, so bonus thanks!) 20:32:55 From Kalman Brauner To Everyone: Great presentation! Thanks, Cheryl. 20:34:41 From Andreas Enderlein To Everyone: Many thanks for another great presentation! 20:35:48 From Charis W To Everyone: This was an amazing presentation. Thank you so much for the clarity and thoroughness. Huge kudos! 20:36:08 From Mearl & Caroline To Everyone: Thank you! 20:36:22 From Tyreen McRae To Everyone: thank you very much! 20:36:24 From iona To Everyone: thank you so much, that was incredible! when is the next trip mountaineers trip to turkey? CHERYL: I probably won't be leading it again for some time, and not sure that there is another leader who wants to go there - so unknown! But you CAN arrange your own trekking trip on these trails through Middle EArth Travel. 20:36:32 From Monica Poinescu To Everyone: thanks! 20:36:32 From Raul Ramos To Everyone: Thank you! 20:36:59 From juddhardy To Everyone: Thank you!
